| Available Rebates & Tax Credits | The Home Energy Retrofit | ||
PNM a local utility company of New Mexico rewards homeowers by providing rebates for improvements that save energy. Energy Star provides federal tax credits for energy efficient upgrades.
Starting in 2009 homeowners can qualify for federal tax incentives by simply making home energy improvements that include insulation upgrades, heating and cooling upgrades and onsite renewable energy generation. The incentive is a total of 30% of the cost of the upgrade up to $1500. Upgrades include replacment windows, window films, insulation and air sealing. Mechanical upgrades include furnace, boiler, and domestic hot water upgrades. |
Also starting in 2009, homeowners who install solar water heaters, geothermal heat pumps and wind energy systems are eligible for a tax credit of up to 30% of the cost, with no caps. Previously, caps on these types of projects ranged from $2,000 to $4,000. These tax credits are available through 2016, and both labor and materials qualify.  |
